ABOUT FONQue Nouveau

Ronny deCarlo is the moniker of Colombian-Dutch guitar wizard/producer Roenik Roa Espinosa.

His brainchild, FONQUE NOUVEAU, is about a fresh and personal sound. This sonic fingerprint combines Ronny’s roots as a classically and jazz trained guitar player with the bombastic beat of 90s/00s producers—think Timbaland, the Neptunes—layered with futuristic electronica and echoes of cinema blockbusters and videogames.

FONQUE reflects roots in Funk/Soul/Jazz/Rock. NOUVEAU points to a forward-looking, futuristic twist.

In 2023, Ronny won The Records, a competition by the Keep an Eye Foundation. With the prize came a grant of E10.000,- and a challenge to release an album within 12 months. The result: FONQUE NOUVEAU (2024), a self-titled debut, mixed and produced by Wiboud Burkens and released in TivoliVredenburg under ZenneZ Records.

FONQUE NOUVEAU was met with praise, including raving reviews in Jazzism magazine, and earned a nomination for an Edison Award in ‘Newcomer Jazz’ category. Ronny’s second full-lenght “Fonque Nouveau II” is in the works and set to be released in 2026.
