ABOUT FONQue Nouveau

Ronny deCarlo is the moniker of the Dutch-Colombian guitarist and producer Roenik Roa Espinosa.

His brainchild, FONQUE NOUVEAU, is about finding a fresh and soulful sound, combining the adventure of Jazz with the bombastic beat of Hip Hop and a futuristic, electronic, and cinematic sound.

You can hear echoes of old school Funk, Jazz and Hip Hop, alongside modern influences from Trap Soul, Afro/Latin, and videogame soundtracks.

In 2023, Ronny won “The Records”, a competition by the Keep an Eye Foundation. This came with a prize and a challenge: to record and release his debutalbum in 12 months. This resulted in the self-titled debut FONQUE NOUVEAU, mixed and produced by Wiboud Burkens. FONQUE NOUVEAU was released in Tivoli Vredenburg in January 2024 and followed by a tour through Dutch and German (Jazz) festivals.

FONQUE NOUVEAU received raving reviews in among others Jazzism magazine and was nominated for an Edison.
